Blackthorn or Prunus spinosa Hedging Plants 40 - 60cm tall x 25 Image 1

Prunus Spinosa or more commonly known as Blackthorn is a bushy, spiny shrub or tree with deep green leaves. It carries pretty bowl-shaped white flowers before the leaves from April to May followed by black fruits in June.

Will this Hedging Plant be Suitable?

Prunus Spinosa is one of the more popular plants for hedges for a number of reasons. It grows to become a dense hedge, providing a good barrier and screen. It likes most soil types as long as the soil is moist and well drained and prefers full sun. It is also okay in coastal areas or exposed windy conditions.

(Also available in size 60-80cm)

For Planting and Care Advice please see our Guide to Bare-root Hedging.

How Many Hedging Plants will I need?
Here at Crowders we suggest each plant should be 12-18 inches/30-45cm apart in a single row which works out at 3 per meter. If you require a thicker hedge you would require 5 plants per meter which you would plant staggered, 12-18 inches/30-45cm apart.

Which Size hedging Plant Do I Buy?
Bare root hedging plants are measured by their height in centimetres from the ground and are approximate.
