More commonly known as Field Maple, Acer campestre is
one of the best plants for hedging. It is a deciduous and fast growing plant
that produces an excellent dense hedge. New leaves are a reddish-purple, turning
dark green when mature and turn yellow in the autumn. During the spring it will
produce clusters of yellow-green flowers and winged seeds in the autumn.
Is this Hedging Plant Ideal for where I
will be planting it?
Acer Campestre particularly likes either chalky soil conditions or clay soil, but all in all will grow in pretty much any soil that has decent drainage. However, it won't grow well in strongly acidic, peaty soil. Acer Campestre is suitable for mixed or single species hedge row and is one of the best plants for hedges.

How Many Hedging Plants will I need?
Here at Crowders we suggest each plant should be 12-18 inches/30-45cm apart in a single row which works out at 3 per meter. If you require a thicker hedge you would require 5 plants per meter which you would plant staggered, 12-18 inches/30-45cm apart.
