Salix alba or the White Willow is a deciduous broadleaf tree with a grey brown bark which develops fissures in maturity. Its common name comes from the underside of the leaves which are covered in fine white hairs. Catkins are produced by male and female trees separately in April and many bees are attracted to the flowers.  Butterfly and moth larvae will also feed on the leaves.
