Silene dioica, also known as Red Campion, is a little pinky-red meadow flower which is often found in the wild growing in woodlands and in the verges of country roads. Just as Bluebells finish flowering, Red Campion starts to come into bloom, so if they grow side-by-side for a few weeks, they can turn a woodland floor or wildflower garden into an amazing sea of pink and blue. It has rich green leaves that appear in spring, and has a long flowering period right through until the start of autumn. It is fairly pest-free, and doesn't seem to attract much attention from slugs and snails, although it is highly attractive to night-flying moths and bees.
