The Sparrow Terrace provides 3 separate nesting boxes in one unit. Each has its own 32mm diameter entrance holes, ideal for house and tree sparrows.
The nest box is made of timber from FSC forests. The external side of the timber is preserved with tanalith E pressure treatment. The majority of internal sides of the timbers are rough sawn and untreated, ideal for young chicks and birds.
The terrace is constructed so that all the joints are glued in addition to being nailed and screwed.
The timber for the walls and floor of the terrace are 22mm thick ensuring a warmer and dryer environment. With the joints being glued this also reduces draft in the nesting area.
The floors are drilled or slotted to enable drainage.
The roof panel is easily removed with a screwdriver for easy cleaning. The roof being screwed in to place ensures that no predators can gain access easily.
The internal walls being rough sawn aid the young birds to climb up to the entrance when ready to leave the nest.
Fixing is done via the predrilled holes in the back of the terrace, using appropriate fixings for the substrate / building material of your chosen site. (Fixings not supplied).
Compartment space: 125mm (W) x 150mm (D) x 220mm (H).
Siting the Sparrow Terrace Nest Box.
Ideally the sparrow terrace should be mounted at least 3m above ground level or as close to the eaves of the house, if safe access allows. The terrace should face in an easterly direction avoiding direct heat from the sun and the prevailing wind and rain.
